BMW has been busy expanding their production capacity and a huge step in that process has just been completed. The plant upgrades in Munich have been completed which has allowed for 9,000 more jobs to be created.
The other good news that comes out of this development is that the BMW 3 Series is a go for production and we should see it in dealership Showrooms sometime in February.
Not only will the BMW 3 Series be coming out, but BMW should always have cars in stock. One of the impressive new additions to the plant in Munich is a metal press that has the ability to process an amount of metal equal to all of the metal used on the Eiffel Tower in just a week and 4 days. This huge jump in materials production will assist BMW in building 680 cars per day.
Other efficiency improvements include new robots to help with spot welding and a new foam machine which helps better dampen sound inside the cockpit.
Beyond technical advancements, BMW has developed processes to reduce all non-recyclable waste created by producing the sixth-gen 3 Series to just eight grams per vehicle. Not only that, but, 60-percent of the 3 Series leaving the facility are being transported by rail. And, in the spirit of being neighborly, BMW is even taking strides to reduce sound pollution. Specifically, they've integrated high-tech silencers, ventilation systems, sound-absorbing cladding and other processes to mitigate irritating manufacturing noise.
